Hi,

Yes, i know this is the 1000th or so moon shot. Yawn!
Beside of this spring isn't the perfect season for such photos.
Probably it would be better to wait some days more. Unfortunately
cloudy weather is anounced...

The following one was taken 30 minutes a ago with the D60, Sigma 50-500
and 2x TC. It is resized (50 percent). In the original some CA is visible.

Regards,

Andreas

When are you going to stop making your wife hold up those swiss cheese rounds while you photograph them? (Says I with envy)

Great one... Very sharp. I was trying to do such a picture with canon 75-300 lens, np TC and it was pretty good, but not that sharp. What was you technique? Mirror flip up? speed? tripod?...

Very nice Andreas, reminds me of the "Same procedure every month" posts from way back in STF. I never get tired of well executed moon shots like this.

I bought this same combination this week and its been raining ever since, so I haven't even had a chance to take a huge telephoto shot of the cat across the room yet.

What were the timings on your photo?
Waiting for the first clear night.

This shot rivals and surpases some of my OM-1 and Celestron NexStar 8 moon shots. Well done. Davidk

Mirror flip up, two tripods (this lens is so heavy).
The EXIF header of the photo is intact (f14, 1/20s)

Yes, the STF was (is?) a very special forum. I wish more EX STF'ler would
come over here :)

Thanks for your comments!

Thanks for your comments! But i don't know if i should be happy with it.
As already mentioned the D60 is much more demanding in aspect of the lenses.

Hello Andreas,

I think your moonshot is great. There are indeed a lot of moonshots out there, but yours is one of the "better" ones.

  • ??? Why shouldn't you be happy? Is there something that can be improved in this shot? Did you expected to see "Marsians on the moon"? ;-)
I'm enjoying my Sigma 50-500mm and imho, it's a great lens. I tested various focal settings and they all are great. So, the 50-500mm range is usable all the way, and that's just what I needed for a lot of shootings.
So far, I'm very happy with my "beast" ...

Kind regards,

I am still very happy with this lens too. IMHO it has a really good price/benefit ratio. (Although i am looking very envious to the EF 600/4 L of my collegue).

This kind of moon shots i have done with all my cameras (from my CP950 up to now) It is amazing how they have become bigger and better in terms of resolution and size)

The last one i did with the same combo and my D30. So i expected a magnification of around 40 percent with the D60.

But now i am seeing already slight CA (in the original). Nothing dramatic, but visible. Perhaps caused by the alignment (?) of the TC or the
higher demands of the D60 imager in aspect of the glass.

However, i can't compare the D30 moon shot with the D60 pendant just because we already have to much atmospheric "interferences".

Conclusion: I still would recommand the Sigma 50-500 lens but not a
2x TC (from Sigma or Canon).

Best regards,

Andreas

Hi Andreas, You really need to stop "showing off." First it was the fantastic "bird shot" the other day and now a great "moon shot." You really know how to make this lens "sing" don't you. I would like to see a shot of your 50-500 lens being supported by 2 tripods. Thanks for sharing and keep sending more of these.

I'm sure it will be obvious after you tell us, what is CA?

Thanks
