5D goes Ski-mountaineering Switzerland (BIG IMG's)

Having recently returned from a week of back country skiing in the Arolla area of Switzerland, I thought I should report back what the 5D can do under these high alpine conditions. (This is a technical report of camera performance therefore images are necessary -wink wink)

A few Panoramas (Significantly down-sized) more info in the pbase link but these were rendered with PTGui. All hand held series.

From the Vignette Hut ridge - Pigne d'Arolla

From the Mont Rouges ridge just before plunging into the good fresh soft stuff. Our ski took us out some 1500meters vertical into the village of Satarma down the valley to the bottom right of this image.

Here's a link to a few others:

& a few other images

the soft stuff we worked so hard for...

The Vignette hut

The Matterhorn visible in the rear - a different angle than the usual Zermatt perspective.

The 5D performed well. A few niggles though. I was carrying the camera in a chest pack (Think Tank Photo Digital Holster which was excellent) supported by 'beaners clipped onto my ski pack. When putting the camera in and out of the pack though, the mode dial would often get changed inadvertently from A to M. Because there is no indicator in the VF as to the camera mode, I would get fooled occasionally and find myself with over-exposed images...or in one case reprogrammed to a custom jpeg mode which had me quite puzzled for a while.

Comments & critiques welcome.
