So many polls that I decided to start a new one - What do you use mostly - Electronic ViewFinder or LCD screen? Why?

I prefer using EVF, especially outdoors (bright sunlight makes it difficult to use LCD). LCD only for macro shots or in situations when photographed people aren't supposed to know that they are photographed (holding the camera at the waist level and looking down on the LCD)

What about You?

Hi,

I've just bought my DSC-F707 yesterday and very happy
to have it.

About LCD and EVF, Yesterday I've mainly used the LCD
but I think that with time I'll use the LCD mainly for setting it up
and erase or see the photos but use the EVF to take the photos.

I'm very surprised about ho how nice it's.

Regards

The good old harsh Australian sun sees me spending more time using the EVF. I also find the EVF better as I wear glasses and find it hard to focus my eyes on the LCD (short sighter bugger that I am) .I also find it easier to focus the shot using the EVF. I use the LCD more at night or with shots that require me to use the rotation of the camera body. That's when you'll see me hanging onto my glasses while I setup the shot. Geez, I need to get that laser correctional treatment so I can use the camera properly............

I use most of the time the LCD. I don't have that much trouble with it. I only use the EVF when I have to photograph a fast moving object. It is easier to follow the object that way.

Me too, I have mine since Friday.

Some time ago I've read many critical opinions about 707 EVF, but after playing with the camera I find it even better than the main LCD. It's very sharp, enabling me to check if the AF lock is correct, show very good colors. But I must also admit that watching taken photos is more convenient using the LCD.

With the LCD, I don't have to take off either my glasses
or my hat (and figure out where to put them!) in order
to take a shot. That settles it, 99% of the time.

When the sunlight is too bright for the LCD, I revert to
the EVF. Sometimes it helps... but surprisingly, sometimes
it doesn't. It has lots of light leakage at the sides, and
needs an optional big, soft eyecup.

I hate squinting into the view finder, it removes me from the scene too much. I love using the LCD because I can use both eyes and still see the surroundings. During very bright daylight (F4 1/1000 with a polarizer on) I at times try the EVF but do not like doing so.

Use the Force, Shay. Relax your mind. Feel the force surrounding you, binding you to the EVF. You know it to be true. :-)

Somehow EVF image update looks delayed to me. I lose the moving subject much too easily in EVF. Also, subject movement looks jerky in EVF.

LCD is just perfect to me. If only Sony could make reflective or transreflective LCD, visible in bright sun! They use it in their Clie PDA, so technology is here.

just more comfortable I guess from the years with 35mm.

it seems to bring me closer, sharper. the 707 is the first camera i've had with an LCD so i'm not use to it, even thogh i wanted it as a necessary feature. but once i used the EVF, that was it.

I would say LCD-50%
EVF-50%

I definitely prefer using the EVF, especially in bright sunlight it seems nearly impossible to me to use the LCD ...
maybe its also because I feel more comfortable holding the DA like an SLR

I use the EVF nearly 100% of the time, although I wish the eyecup were just a little larger to accommodate people with eyeglasses (like me). One occasional use I have found for the LCD is "candids". I hold the camera around waist level, rotate the body up toward me, and click away relatively unobtrusively. It can even be done one-handed as long as you're not trying to adjust the zoom.

Ditto for me on the usage. I prefer the EVF on most occasions and for candids, the LCD screen.

EVF for me as well (years of 35mm SLR habbit). Besides that, from the photography classes I took in college, I was tought that I had to hold the camera firmly, and close to me, so that I don't shake it. You naturally have to hold the camera away from you to use the LCD. It doesn't seem like a good idea if you're having a lot of prints made.
