Syncback will do exactly what you want and it's free for the basic version (which is all you will need). I've been using it for more than a year on both XP and Vista machines to basically keep them, and also several external hard drives, synchronized. You can set up a profile so that it only backs up certain folders and only replaces files if they have changed. Best of all, it copies files and folders as is and does not use either compressed or proprietary formats. You'll love it. Check it out at http://www.2brightsparks.com
