I was out taking some photos today and at some point I noticed my autofocus stopped working. I am not sure if it was working earlier or not or if it started on the first photo. When I move the lens to manual mode the camera works fine.

I have tried different lens and it occures doesn't work on any of them. The lens moves, but never achieves a sharp focus and then when I push the shutter button the green light blinks indicating focus not achieved. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem once with my 70-200 f4L when I had the focus limiter switch set to 3m-Infinity and tried to focus at less than 3m.

Otherwise, I've only had this problem when the camera can't find anything to focus on (low light, low contrast, etc).

What lens? Indoors? Low-light?

Try shooting during the day, or in a bright room.

And, regardless of the lighting situation, make sure that your autofocus sensor points are over areas of the scene that have some contrast. I.e., don't place your AF sensors on areas that are mostly the same color (all white, all red, all black...). They need contrast in order to obtain good focus.

Well, one thing is almost certain: it's not the lenses. You should have no trouble finding focus during the day, or with an aperture as large as f/1.8.

It sounds like the camera. Is it new or still under waranty? I would send it back, if it's still new, or send it in to Canon if it's still under waranty.

Or maybe you can take the body and one of your lenses back to the store you bought them from (if you didn't buy them online), and ask to try the same body or lens. You'll know for sure then.

Good luck.

Can it be that simple that it is the viewfinder adjustmen wheel + - that is out of focus. I have had the same problem that everything was out of focus.

The viewfinder isn't connected to the autofocus system of the camera.

He's saying he can no longer take a picture because the camera won't take the shot because there's no focus lock. He's only able to shoot when manually focusing.

That suggests to me that the camera's AF is malfunctioning.
