Operating Temp D80
This may not be directly related, I went through a Navy photo class prior to going to the north pole. The class was related to 35mm and wide format cameras, the factor then was lubrication of moving parts would freeze. The batteries were not an issue. They told us to keep the camera inside our coats until ready to use it then put it back. Only had a problem with the camera slowing down after 3 to 3 1/2hour in -40* F weather. Condensation only occured if the camera was out for more than a minute or so. Give it a try might help if the temp is too much below zero.
