Metz 48 Flash -- Anybody seen it?

I'm wondering if the Metz 48 AF flash for Olympus actually exists. Or if it does, whether it is still in production. I've had one on order for a few weeks and B&H still lists its status as "accepting orders". I went to the Metz (Germany) web site yesterday to see if there was any information about availability and found that the 48 AF isn't listed as a product at all.

If there is any definite information that they are out of that part of the business now would be a good time to grab an Olympus unit while the rebates are available.

Does anybody know anything about this?

I think it does exist, but is pretty much only available in Europe.

The Metz flash units for Olympus look very interesting to me, but again, don't seem very easy to find in the US.

... had one on order with B&H for a couple of weeks, but didn't get a good feeling about the continual lack of information on it (being on backorder). I happened to see one on eBay for about the same price (had only been used once), so I jumped on it. I really like it and it seems very solid to me, although I have to admit I'm just getting back into photography as a hobby.

I wish I could help you find one. There are none listed on eBay (in the US) at the moment.

Good luck,

Chattanooga Vol

I have a feeling that I'll just stop waiting it out...this is rediculous. Almost like vapor-ware but there are people who ACTUALLY do have one - albeit, mostly in Europe. The 48 fits perfectly between the FL36 and 50 - suits my needs perfectly. Damn, I wish they would just say online in the stores:

"This item is backordered. We have no clue when, or even if, this item will ever make it to our store. If we do happen to get lucky and get one, you may be the lucky person who gets it. Good luck!"

From the OP:

It arrived! I was worried that Metz had given up on this variant, but it arrived and it looks like a pretty darn nice flash. If I were being picky I might wish that it had come with a case and stand like my Canon 420, but the important thing is the flash itself.

The manual looked scary until I realized that it was one of those multi-language publications, and it's not particularly complete.

If this works as well as it seems to, I'm very glad that I waited.

I hope you will report to us about how the flash works out for you. I am very interested in it myself.

I'm intrigued by this flash. Has anyone used it who also has experience with the Olympus models? If so, how would you say it compares? Specifically I'm interested I guess in compatibility and convenience. Does the Metz work well as a "dedicated" flash on an Olympus E-series camera?

I haven't done extensive testing, but so far I'm pleased. It talks to the lens as it should, zooming correctly. The big thing for me was the FP synch ability, and it works fine at the highest shutter speed (1/4000). The build quality feels excellent on the outside. Fast charge time. Silent operation (odd, until you get used to it!).

Seems good.

and they said it would take about three days to arrive at the shop.

In Europe you can get them almost anywhere :-) (at least something we get earlier/easier here)

Hope to use it a lot quite soon!

Regards, Jigal.

I have mine back since a few days. It was sent back due the motorzoom stopped working.

They have replaced it. Now the head swivels much smoother and the motorzoom makes less noise.

I've missed it with such dark winterdays. It's a great flash...

I'm looking to get one for myself but no one seems to have one in stock. It seems to fit in nicely between the two Oly flashes and the update via USB feature is nice.

I got mine 2 days ago to my E3. A fantastic flash, but it isn't yet compatible
in RC mode. It misses group C. has only A an B.
It will come a firmware update in about 3 weeks.
