More megapixels, better photos: Fact or fiction?

More pixels = less disk space

When I studied photography, the first course in which we captured or created images for crit and credit required us to use either brownies or instamatics. (I'm dating myself, but you get the idea.) No cropping allowed. With simple tools like this, the only way to succeed was to use wit, skill, persistence, and creativity. And did we ever - everything from studio work to news shots, followed at the end of the semester by lunch with Gordon Parks and a private viewing of outstanding work done exactly the same way.

It isn't about pixel counts, sensor size, or live view. It's about seeing, framing, creating, or getting the shot. The camera, after all, is just a device that records what you see. And with it, can you make the understand see what you saw?
