Vivitar never made a lense. They contracted with many different lense manufacturers including Olympus. Some of the 135mm lenses were made by Komine. I use one of those on my e 410 and get great results. They're pretty cheap on eBay and usually a great value. By the way, excellent pics with your Vivitar!

Nice pics, looks like a decent lens. Cant go wrong for 17.00 even at 35.00, so I think I will get it. I had a couple of the Series 1 lenses and they were ok, but that was on film and they are long gone

I hesitated also between the Nikon 135mm 2.4 (75$) & the Vivitar.
I first bought the nikon one but it's mutch more heavy & hard to focus.
Today I bought the Vivitar one in Vancouver (kerrisdale cameras) for 30$
& it has a better sharpness at 2.8 than the nikon one (blured corners).
it's a great deal for the price !

So , your first impressions about this lens puttin ?

mine are that is is smoother to focus than the nikon one & has a sharper 2.8 aperture

As has already been said Komine made the lens. They also marketed under their own name which was Kiron. Basically most of Vivitar series 1 lenses were made by Komine. The give away is normally when it's gloss black paint finish which was what the Kiron lenses came in. But there was a few matt finish ones as well. Kiron lenses are also very well worth checking out.

Kiron was the brand of Kino Precision Optical Ltd. Kiron lenses were generally excellent quality as 3rd party lenses go - comparable to Tokina and Tamron.

As for that Vivitar 135mm f2.8 manual focus lens, the more recent versions are quite good, but they can be gotten off of ebay for typically under $25 (usually $10-20 plus shipping).

$35 would only be a good price if it was from a local vendor, and there was some type of return for refund option if the condition were not up to snuff.

So far I like it,but have only played with it around the house. It seems to focus smoothly but I need to get used to it. It has a longer travell then some of my other manual lenses. It goes to 80 ft before infinity where as most lenes are around 30 ft.

How do I mount this on a E500?
You need a 4/3 adapter. I got mine on ebay under 25.00 from a seller called much mall. I just ordered my 3rd one so I can leave on my most used lenses

do you have a split screen installed in your camera ?
I did it in my Nikon D40x & it's so usefull for manual focusing.
at 2.8 on the vivitar it's a bit hard , but when you get used, it's a dream.

No, but that might be a good idea since I plan to use some of my old lenses

then I would warmly recomand you the screens from sir Haoda (haoda screens .com ) , He answers personaly to each email & sells the 3rd gen. of his screens for 1/3 of the price than ketseyes ones. I took 10 minutes (all tools are furnished) to install it , & had to put some spacers for a perfect focus (also in the box) . It's a gem with 1.4 50mm lens & works very well on Vivitar also.

The Katz is much nicer, but the Haoda get's the job done.
