For what it's worth department. I called two local pro camera retailers here in Phoenix, AZ about buying a D3 and they said they will no longer sell the Nikon line because they are fed up with how Nikon markets their product and the games they play when they come out with a new product.

...why give up a line of products that
are selling like hotcakes?

i guess their next move is to abandon all digital products and go back to film. Owner over heard saying "this digital stuff is just a fad ....".

LOL

It's the same old drama

When they have stock they are in love

When they are out they are haters

I don't understand it either. Some of the pro portrait studios in the area use the Fuji S pros too but the top three pro retail shops here in Phoenix don't sell them either. All they push is the Canon line.

Does that mean they still carry Canon even though they had to send back all of their Canon 1DmkIII's and can't get a supply of the new 1Ds mkIII camera ?

Supply and demand is a fact of life in any product. It doesn't matter whether its a Nintendo WII, iPhone or the latest hot automobile.

This sounds like a business opportunity if true - setup your own outfit and you can be the exclusive Phoenix Nikon dealer...

I can understand why...... a local dealer here in NYC mentioned back in the beginning of December... for every D3 that they order from Nikon, they are required to take TEN Nikon Coolpix cameras.

So if they sell one D3... they'll have to find a way to sell 10 coolpix's also. I can see dealers getting fed up with that...

I'll play along.

Do you have names of the person or persons you spoke with and the names of the retailers?

Just another Shooter.

That's what the guy at one of the local stores said. I don't blame them for not doing business that way. It's bad enough they have too compete with other local outfits as well as the tax free on line outlets

Yes I do but it's not my intention to comprise their association with their vendors. By the way, I have nothing against Canon, I think they have a fine product but I would like choice.

gotta be more to the story...

two stores are going to give up selling consumer nikon products because they can't service a half a dozen d3 sales??

was it a salesman you spoke to ???
were his lips moving????

I know several pro dealers in various places around the country and that is not the case. Nikon (like Canon, etc.) may require dealers to buy a certain dollar volume of product but generally don't tightly dictate what products the dealer buys.

What are the name of the retailers? I would love to give them a call.

Respond to rudeness with civility, it really annoys them.

It sounds like the Nikon area representative ought to be replaced if two different pro retailers are unhappy with Nikon. It's obvious that he's not servicing the area properly.

sounds like theyre just selling what they have, 10 coolpix, fine, selll em on ebay, with Nikon distrubuting to all stores and not favoring their big sellers BH Ritz etc, it looks to me like they were trying to spread the wealth and help the smaller stores and isnt that what we've seen here, order at Ritz get it this summer, order at a smaller store get it in 2 weeks

"hello camera shop?...yes, I would like to buy a camera from you that I know is on a waiting list for you and everyone else but when it comes in I will come and give you MSRP for the camera and probably buy some other stuff from you as well". "Oh, you are not selling the very latest in camera technology?" "I'm sorry, I thought I was calling a pro camera store." "enjoy watching your business dwindle."
