Rocky Beach

In 2 and 3 the water almost looks like a fog rolling from the long expsure, it gives a really cool effect. How long were your exposures for?

love the water and color on these... really serene...

I had an issue trying to get this 'misty' water effect during dusk yesterday -- it was still pretty bright, but even at 1 sec. on my shutter speed I couldn't get the aperture small enough not to over expose....

i have this grating feeling i may have had a total brain-malfunction at the time... i very well may have been thinking backwards.... i want to go try again this weekend...

I was only on iso 100, using a 50mm 1.8 lens... is this possible?

any tips on getting this effect when there's quite a bit of ambient light?

Neutral Density (ND) filter. It cuts the light.

Just get the right size for your lens. I would get two, three stop filters. That way you can stack them for more or less effect.

wow I love this third one! where is this place? I was going to ask if you were using cokin filters since everything seems to have a bluish purple tinge. But again, I love the colors in this photo.

City lights has the beast advice if there's alot of light, stack multiple nd filters,, the first photo has a 6 second exposure time and the others are 30 seconds,, it was pretty dark when I shot these so it might be hard to achieve this effect with alot of light. good luck.
