These may help with what you are experiencing on the non flash
exposures you are unhappy with, and if this was the “curve” you were
referring to then yes maybe creating your own Picture Control “curve”
may be a way to improve your results.

.. if you ever used a D100, you got to learn quite a bit about custom curves. Amazingly, Fotogenetic's website is still up and running and it is still very informative re. why use a custom curve instead of exposure compensation. If someone has never had any experience with custom curves in the past, or is wondering what they are and how they work, they may find the following site to be very informative (much more info than in 'TFM') ..
