D300 Wedding Test Shooting Report - as promised (imgs)

First off the 'link at the bottom' is to a gallery on smugmug where the some of the original files were uploaded (141 showing of 1483 shot). The full exif is available. Some edits may come later as desired/requested. Feel free to ask any questions, I will do my best to accommodate any inquiry or edit request. The details below are critical for you to read and understand. Please do not comment if you do not read and follow the details below fully.

  • The post following this has all my opinions and thoughts on the D300 and lenses, IQ, focus, etc. etc. etc. Check the next post for likely answers to a lot of your questions AFTER you view the images.

  • This wedding was a test, these images (although some are amazing) will likely never be seen by the B&G, unless the primary shooters need backups - I was 3rd shooter/test shooter this day - unpaid.

  • You should be able to download the images for your testing, do not repost any of these except in the thread without my consent. In other words have fun & learn from these, courteously leave them here.

  • Some images may appear to be the same, the likelihood is that the second image is a quick Photoshop edit for some NR or USM I was testing.

  • They are not in perfect order, as I accidentally changed one of the cameras to Dec. 14 and one to Dec. 15 - glad I don't have to resort these for the client

  • Some do show overexposure as many are freaking out about (and exchanging 3 and 4 cameras for). Often the Matrix Metering gets fooled when there is an area of bright light included in the image or being too close with the flash and nit compensating - a common problem with the high powered SB800. This is remarkably easy to recover in LR with a single click.

  • All of the images were shot with two different D300s and a multitude of lenses (Tamron 28-75 f2.8, Nikon 14-24 f2.8, Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR, Nikon 18-200 VR). Most shot with SB800 flash attached (except the majority of the high ISO 1600+ photos). All shot 14-bit NEF then converted in LR with the following settings:

And here are the completely unprocessed samples (except those shown as duplicates):
