Can we Canon shooters accomplish that???

I was reading up about CraigsActions and saw this article.

In the Nikon world, the onboard flash can be set similar to Canon's Group C as a weak fill. The other two external slave flashes are set as Group A and B.

In the E-TTL world, we would put a 550EX, 580EX or 580EX II on the camera and to control two slave flashes on the stands.

The onboard flash has to be in Group A. Canon has hardcoded that into the ETTL master/slave logic. we can set other two slave flashes A and B, A and C or B and C. But there is no way to set the one on camera as C.

How can we set on camera flash as a weak fill?

Can we set the FEC on the flash itself to accomplish this? We can make the on camera flash not to fire but that does not help.

I know we can set each flash in Manual and control the power independently but that was not my intention. I want the simplicity of the E-TTL to auto-balance the power for me.

Note I posted the question here instead of on the lighting forum is because this is specific to E-TTL.
