Now, do you see the extra detail that the D300 provides? It clearly shows up in the clay tile roof. If you bumped the D300 NR up one notch, it would soften the noise and lose some detail, also.

It is very difficult for a 12mp sensor to compete with a smaller sensor, such as the 8mp. Even dpreview showed that the 40d had a slightly noisier image than the 20d. The larger sensor gives you the ability to enlarge your photo, but it is very difficult for more photos sites to be crammed into a dx sensor without increase noise.

If all you are wanting is the lowest noise possible, stick with the 20d. I own one and love it.

The reason I chose the D300 was the larger sensor and how it compared to the 40d. It is at least as good, possibly better in detail and noise.

BTW, do you now see how down-sizing an image helps? Thanks for taking the time to do that.
