For the second year in a row I spent the day before Thanksgiving at Elkhorn Slough. This year I saw an unbelievable number of raptors although most of them were too far away or I missed the shot. As usually there were lots of pelicans and egrets. Here are a few images that I am happy with. All were taken with the 20D and 400/5.6 (a few might have the Tamron 1.4x.

Technically not that great, but I liked it any way (it looks to me like they are racing :-). Can anyone identify these for me?

Another one that not so good technically, but I like it none the less.

I also need an id for this one.

Surprisingly, I only saw one GBH all day, shortly before sunset.

Many fanstastic posts as usual!!

These aren't "smoking" fresh, but I've been travelling so much I haven't had a chance to participate. Finally home for a couple of weeks before heading for Southern California for Christmas... Anyway here's a few from a business trip to NY the end of September and the kingfishers are taken in Southern Sweden:

Lovely shots at Elkhorn Slough. I was there just this past Saturday (see the Pelican shots earlier in this thread).

The two unidentified birds are, I believe, Red-breasted Merganser and Hutton's Vireo.

Over the weekend while at Ed Levin park, a belted kingfisher with a fish on his mouth landed right outside my car. Only problem it was in front of me, while my 500mm was pointing outside my side window. So I just sit there and watch it fly off.

Wow, nice shots, I especially like the second one, the Bokeh is unbelievable, it makes the picture have a 3D look, the bird seems to be popping out of the image!

All fine captures Michael, but 1 and 2 are over the top for me! Unfotunately, we only get the belted up here in Canada and your capture of these ones are gorgeous!

Really like the collection. The Eared Grebe shows well. I like the subdued light and exposure. Or, replace the previous comments with "Nice shots!!"
