1D MKIII fix process begun in Japan

Today (Nov. 26) Canon Japan sent out email to registered 1D MKIII users advising that they were now taking applications to have cameras in the affected serial range fixed. The procedure is to either call a special hotline or go to one of the Canon repair centers.

I opted to call. The lady took my serial number along with my name/address, etc. (despite being a registered customer) and said a courier would be by my house tomorrow morning to pick it up. She estimated 7-10 days to have it fixed and back to me.

She apologised profusely and said I should call again with my case number if I have any more concerns.

We'll see what happens. Personally, I was having occasional trouble last summer with extreme brightness/heat and my 70-200 f2.8 IS on in One Shot mode, so I'm just hoping that everything gets sorted out.
