No, they don't. They look about like the photos I got from my 40D.
Despite using top notch glass like this guy did, photos were slightly
soft, the sharp ones were not sharp enough, and I got a lot of
backfocused shots where the crowd was sharp and the players were not.

I agree that some of those images are disappointingly soft. Others, though, are excellent. You even get a sense of texture on the ball from quite far away.

Looks like the standard 40D portfolio to me, nothing like the D300
shots posted, and the full reason I've switched.

Thanks for pointing them out, though. I needed the reminder that I
made the right choice.

Whether you made the right choice or not will only become apparent when you actually shoot with the cam ... it amazes me how many definitive statements are coming out with not one extended experience report available.
