IMG: the face of beauty

Whoa! I'm not one to rave about insect macros, but this is a wonderful image! It's perfect macro with the background a creamy blur. Would love to hear the story behind how you were able to capture this image, and what equipment/settings were used.

My wife doesn't want to look at it, so I have to show somebody. I
sure have been seeing a lot of grasshoppers lately. I guess it's
better than nothing. Thanks for looking. Bruce

I took a look at your posted image, saw another, and I could not stop until I saw them all in your gallery. Great macro pictures. Interesting subjects as well. In spite of not liking insects in vivo, I enjoyed your work (your fun?) a lot. Take care,

Jack.

Great shot, Bruce! That is some face ;-0

I too browsed around your galleries, and you have some real nice shots. Keep it up! "Day's Catch" is priceless...

Thank you. I wish I can tell you it was a lot of work, but it was too easy. I came across a field loaded with grasshoppers who were more than willing to have their photo's taken. I shot my stock E10 in AP mode at F 6.3 at 1/80.

Thank you, that's exactly how I feel about days catch too. See ya, Bruce

That you were able to achieve that shallow DOF at F 6.3 is amazing. Well done.

Hi, Bruce.

Excellent job! I'm talking National Geographic quality image here. Very well done.

Keep it up,

Good picture. My wife is the same way about that kind of picture. I like how you are creative about your picture taking angles. I read the posts on there about your flower pictures. That was funny. Don't they know that it is also not very original to criticize flower pictures as unoriginal? Posting their unoriginal criticisms is a waste of bandwidth, too. I liked your answer. Pictures of things in nature is just a way of noticing and appreciating the beauty and wonder of all living things. I like to "take a picture because it lasts longer". J-

I thought I'd add this because I just took this picture while I'm sitting here waiting for my wife to get home for us to go to Houston for our anniversary weekend. I was just playing around making sure my camera is ready and getting a little restless. This flower has been growing in my backyard for about 3 years. It's called a batface but, I never really knew why until I looked at it through my Mcon35 just a few minutes ago. My aging eyes never really "saw" this little flower. I could take a better picture when it is not so windy and cloudy but, to add to my last post, I just now appreciated this flower and thought I'd show it around. My wife wants to run away from my insect and lizard and snake pictures. I can trick her with one of a flower but, it looks like a bat's face. Ha. She can't say "yuck". J-
