D300 versus A700 - comprehensive studio shot test

This will tax your patience and downloading bandwidth:

Read the intro carefully. The A700 images were accidentially sRGB when all the rest are AdobeRGB but I decided not to interfere by converting them. These are all original in-camera JPEGs.

It is a bit monotonous with so many ISO settings to compare between four cameras, but you will learn a lot about them by viewing the images at full size.

Nikonians will not, I think, need to look at the A100/D7D tests since the performance of the D80 and D70 equivalents is different. The D7D tests are not unlike D70 resolution/sharpness, D70S and D50 are of course slightly less AA filtered and would appear crisper. The A100 tests are much noisier and harder in edge/detail than a D80 or D40X. Best just to study the differences between D300 and A700. Bar the apparent low ISO inaccuracy (not really ISO 100, but slower) the D300 definitely wins in the JPEG processing and NR routines - remember all the pix have zero NR except the 6400 ISO set showing the different levels.
