Re: A simpler digital camera

modes. The DL is almost as simple as the ME Super, with a minimum
number of dials and buttons, compared to the *ist D or K10D.

The dials and buttons are not what makes the camera complex. It is nearly endless number of settings you can use those dials and buttons to make. This is like stating a iMac and a television set are of equal complexity since both have a similar number of buttons on the outside of the monitor. ???

Even if

one were to use a fixed lens compact digital, there will always be a
number of buttons and dials or else the set up options will be buried
deep in the menu system.

Not if you eliminate the options, there won't be.

Most DSLR cameras are pretty user friendly.

Just put the camera in program mode and push the shutter button. How
hard can that be?

Have you read the OP's post? His sister obviously doesn't want program mode or she wouldn't be asking for a digital ME. Just because an extremely complex piece of equipment is "easy" for you or me (and probably anyone reading this forum) doesn't mean that applies to the general population. My sister would probably never go to the bother to read this forum - she's got better things to do with her time than sit in front of a computer or struggle through a 300-page manual to learn how to set 1000 different settings on her camera.
