Birthday Dinner - F40 pictures.

Thanks for a very useful set of information.
One last Question (For now..!)

How do you find K100D built-in flash for in door flash portrait. Is it powerful enough from about 10 ft for taking a small group photo.

Tough question, it really depends on the lens you are using if your are using

(30mm f1.4 vs about 30mm focal length of a kit lens at around around f4.5), plus how well light the indoor is, I find it is okay for me to take flash pictures of several people about 10ft from me, but of course I need to switch to iso400 and it is also a sujective opinion. I find the flash very powerful and accurate, gives very accurate and pleasant results, though.

If you take a lot of flash pictures, better buy a flash, about US$200 for the little brother Pentax flash.

lol... food pic 'master', ay. thanks, but like you i am still learning by practicing.

i came to HK to eat but found out i liked many other things just as much. in fact, your city HK blew me away. i was utterly impressed. although a shame that Kai Tak airport is no longer in use.

thanks for the peking duck tip. i'm returning next march to eat some more and i'm going to try the duck for sure

yes, a lot of food photos seem very close. i use [super] macro mode and some cropping. my camera has grease too :) at home i have the time to play with different angles but when i'm travelling it's incredibly hard to get good photos as the lighting in the restaurant is terrible, and everyone stares very hard when i am taking photos of the food and drink...haha. i've just finished processing 7 weeks worth of food/drink photos from my spring trip to HK/Macau/China, now i hope to 'play' with my own food again soon.

did you know....since the mid 90's the sales of cookery books/magazines has increased a lot every year. the photography sells!

don't limit yourself to food photos, also try drinks and sweets. practice practice practice :)

your prvious 5 food pics.

I remember I was so impressed by those pictures that I spent time
studying your composition, after that I dare to move closer to the
food, instead of taking pictures of the whole disk. Yes, I learnt
from you for better food pictures, what a wonderful forum this is. A
great place to learn and to share.

Only concern for getting too close to the food was when I took
picture of the baked port wine oysters, it was steaming, I worried
about my brother getting a greasy F40:p

Again thank you for your kind words and sharing.

I was very busy in the last few days, wife wanted me to help the kids with their studies (examinations coming), I have to serve as an example to the kids by limiting my internet surfing time.

Thank you for sharing these wonderful food and drink pictures. I learn from those 3 pictures. Please share more with us here.

I enjoy taking food pictures, because of the post capturing workflow I guess.

As for my problem with taking food pictures, my kids and my wife always said "can be eat now?"

I learn from different people in the forums, in the Panny forum I learnt from a birder master, professional grade, a very nice and humorous guy. Too bad not much birds in HK, I did have fun and put the suggestion in use when I was in Australia and captured my first bigger than butterfly size Bird-In-Fight picture. Ah, I should email him again. In the forums, I learnt either explicitly and implicitly from posters here, a great place to learn and to share.

You really live near the South Pole?
