that is not correct... i can sync at up to 1/4000th of second in pttl mode with my 540fgz.

as you might expect, there isn't much light output at that shutter speed, which makes shutter speed an excellent way to control the amount of fill flash during the day... i'd imagine that canon also has a high-speed flash as well.

shooting at f11 is a waste of lens resolution, especially when you don't need the dof for a simple group portrait shot.
