After 4 days in my care I lost the battery charger. Upon enquiring as to its replacement I found out that only one place has it in the city. Cost : 1/5th the cost of my 995. This is crazy and ridiculous and I am really pissed off with Nikon for REVERTING to a proprietary battery charger that in any case has a lower capacity and lower battery availability than penlight NiMH.

For the cost of the charger alone I can buy the best charger available and 12 GP 1800 batteries! Nikon, You have been really really stupid.

Are there any alternatives to buying another charger. I have a 7.4v LiIon charger from my panasonic video camera. (995 - 7.2 V). Can I just put croc clips to the 995 battery?

Thanks

Digipower has a battery and battery charger combination which sells for about $50.00 at Best Buy. Also, it includes a car or boat adapter for the charger. It is actually better than the Nikon charger, in my opinion..

I don't see any problem with the voltage. But what's the amperage of the Lilon charger? Better still how about DIRECT dc input into the camera? (Measure the delivery voltage from the ac transformer suppy at the dc camera input) !!

For my CP 990, I got fed up with all the battery hooha. Took the batteries out of the camera and bought a small motorcycle battery of 6v 4amp hr -about( $9). Cut the camera DC supply lead off the ac power supply and clipped the cut ends to the battery (check polarity). bought a 1 amp plugin wall charger ($16). marvelous -- I get about 20 hours shooting with lcd on, and even then the voltage drop is only about half a volt !

VERY Exotic, Emes - even if one supposes that it would be a pleasure to carry a motorcycle battery around with you all day (even a small one).

However, Botman, Central Camera in Chicago, http://www.centralcamera.com/ has the MH-51 charger for $29.95. If that repersents 20% of your purchase price for the 995 - you got one HELL of a deal!

Sounds brilliant, thanks for the suggestions guys.

I went out and brought a charger and 8 Hahnel 1800mah batteries. These are apparently better than GP 1800's.
I am therefore aiming to make a pack out of these rechargeable batteries.

Question, will I have to take the batteries out and charge them seperately, or can I hook them straight up to a charger?
I think I shall be using 6AA batteries to make up 7.5 volts.
Yes 7.5, these Hahnels are 1.25 volts each! Wierd huh.

Okay
THanks

It depends on the charger you use. If you think 1.25 volts is "Wierd", we you better go and buy the charger and packaged batteries!
