Been looking everywhere (in the US) for this new awesome upgradeable high power flash - for Olympus dedication. B&H and Adorama have them - but in Canon and Nikon mounts only. Yet in Europe you see the Olympus version.

Anybody have any hints or links to Oly versions available in the US?

Thanks in advance...

call ePhotoCraft / Photo Craft in Washington D.C. even if they do not have it they will more then likely get it for you. They got me my Metz 54 4i w oly mount (works for panny) and they don't even stock the 54

bogen-manfrotto handles metz in the u.s. the mid atlantic bogen-manfrotto rep is one of my oldest friends, back to 1975, and i'm in regular contact with her---in fact i'll be talking to her this a.m.

you're in the carolinas, and that's not her territory i don't think, but she'll know whose it is. i can get the name of that rep for you probably, and you can talk to him direct about which might be the best place in the carolinas to order it from. alternatively, my local pro shop in baltimore, service phot, carries the bogen manfrotto line and they can get this flash for you [they don't have one---i looked for myself!]

i'll also try to get some info from my friend on the specs---on another thread someone mentioned that it might not be truly full featured for oly

meanwhile, i might have an interesting project for you. i'm sending you an email about it.

your profile is set up to send an email via g-mail, and i don't have an account and i don't want to set one up right this minute. my email is [email protected]

i'm doing a little project that could land me some free software, and that software looks pretty interesting. you do have to work for it, but when i checked your profile it looks like you might actually enjoy doing it---and you certainly have the gear.

Did you just look at the website, or did you actually call them and ask them...if they are a Metz dealer, they should be able to get anything Metz sells.

Many times my local store doesn't have certain Olympus accessories listed on their website, BUT they have always been able to get the items for me if I talk to them.

It's truly a full featured oly-flash. I own one myself (I live in Europe) and it has all the functions that the FL-50 has + a few extras. The only thing it doesn't have is a synch-port but I don't have any use for that sort of thing anyway.. I'm very happy with this flash and I'm sure everyone else in this forum will be too once you've tried it - It's an awesome flash! :)

from what I've seen, it is much more powerful than the FL-50. But nobody seems to know anything about that in the US (the Oly dedicated version, that is).

They know nothing about this particular model, but they will check with their distributor to see if it's even available in the US. And my local store which has everything, was not aware of it either - and will check with their rep. Patience, patience I suppose.

which permits firmware to be user-upgradeable.

Otherwise, guide number difference at full zoom may just be an adjustment in specifications: 190' for the 58, and 177' for the 54.

The Oly version of the Metz 54 supposedly has the wireless TTL flash capability that, presumably, the E-3 features.

Here's the link to the Metz 54 specs:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/432941-REG/Metz_MZ54442O_54MZ_4_TTL_Shoe_Mount.html
Guide number of 190 and much more...see details:

http://www.slrtoday.com/articles/111/1/The-Metz-58-AF-1---First-Compact-Fash-Unit-with-a-USB-Socket/Page1.html

But in the feature they initially said that it will be made only in C
and N mounts - but Olympus has been added also, but it's harder to
find.

Yes, it's quite powerful.. I've never owned an FL-50 so I can't confirm exactly how much it differs, but I've compared it to a Nikon SB-800 that one of my friends uses and his flash is actually somewhat less strong than mine.
