Complete WinXP Color Management!

Sorry I was busy shooting Fall colors today so I was not around my computer the whole day. But I have good news to report.

With the latest, Firefox 3.9 alpha release, I can get identical colors for all applications I use for photo editing and viewing under WinXP.

Image 1: IMG_6249.tif is in the Adobe RGB color space. All 6 applications show the same color. That is true even for the non-color managed IE7 and IrfanView because the default color space on my WinXP is aRGB.

Image 2: IMG_2902.jpg is in the sRBB color space. The color managed applications show correct skin tones while the non-color managed IE7 and IrfanView showed more saturated colors as expected.

The only drawback to my current "hack" is that MSPaint now saves JPEG in the Adobe RGB color space. That did not become obvious until I uploaded the screen captures and viewed in the color managed Firefox 3 alpha. The images here has been re-tagged as aRGB, converted to sRGB and saved with the sRGB profile. Please ignore the JPEG compression artifacts since the images was created by mspaint and resaved by CS3 at level 6.
