We'll just have to disagree then...

I believe there is NOTHING wrong with anything that minimizes vibrations/blur...

This is like saying that monopods are not necessary or tripods for that matter... support is support and blur reduction is blur reduction. I will take it in any form. Don;t be surprised if a lot of others do too

You can say anything against VR but in the end, it is a very valuable technology for most shooters. I don;t believe Nikon and Canon do it purely for marketing reasons. I bet they put a lot of thinking into it.

part of it is hype, yes, but I can tell you when I shoot moving stuff with an unsteady hand, it makes a huge difference at ANY focal length.

My opinion is worth nothing so your mileage may vary LOL
