I would have pre-ordered, but I have a better scheme going.
My retailer, Henry's, has a half-back plan. You can hand the camera back for 50% of what you paid for it if you buy a new camera within a year. After that, it's 33%. Since I'm always an early adopter, it's really worth it.
Unlike you, I don't like to have more than one camera at a time (I know you have at least two). I've done this half-back from the Minolta 7D to the Sony R1 and the A100, and now the A700. It's served me well, I've saved a lot.
Effectively, I end up renting the camera. The A100 cost me $50 per month for a year to rent - an absolute bargain!
Now, if the next camera is full-frame, I'll be in a pickle. Firstly, there's many good reasons to have a FF and APS-C together (unless the camera works like the Nikon D3), and secondly, it's going to be VERY expensive for me.
There's also the matter of the vertical grip, which I will get. I loved the vertical grip on the KM 7D, and this looks like a better version of it. It won't fit on the A900, of course. However, I can give it back as well!
Eventually, of course, I'm going to stick with a camera. I LOVED the 7D, and the 7D II that was never released may have been the one. The A700 looks like it could be that camera.
If not, lol, I'll be renting the A700 and its vertical grip for around $70 per month for a year. That's probably around what film photgraphers had to spend on film and developing costs.
