Nikon 28mm f1.4

Like many I am much excited by the launch of the D3 and will, eventually, acquire one I am sure.

However, since one of the facets of its huge potential involves fast prime lenses and their inherent shallow depth of field, doesn't it seem strange that Nikon chose, not so long ago, to discontinue production of the iconic 28/1.4?

Now, I am not privy to Nikon's long term stategy and have no idea how far into the future their plans stretch, but I can't believe that they didn't know of the forthcoming FX format when they ditched this beauty.

So are we to see a new fast 28mm in the near future? Will it be only f2 and built down to a price? Or will our friends in Japan realise their error and reintroduce the real thing? I have my fingers crossed!
