And yet, you got the shot without liveview.

Would liveview had really helped, anyways?

Think about it. If the LCD doesn't swivel, you still need to get your eyes into a zero degree angle, or roughly that, to see if you have focus or not. The only difference here is that with liveview you may be able to drop the cam lower and won't have to press your face against the body. But you're still going to have to get down on the ground.
