I like the perspective of 300mm close ups

Nice shots Boo, specially the Jay. Your Sigma appears to be a superb
lens. I have one from the film days - got it rechipped but rarely
used now, except when I need a 300mm close-up lens :-).

Thank you kindly. I've been very pleased with the Sigma, for a 'budget' lens. I wanted the length for birding - at the modest level I do it - but also liked the idea of the short minimum focus distance and the perspective you get doing close ups at 300mm - it's a good working distance and allows me to get flora close ups and more distant wildlife on the same walk.

I'm sure that the images out of camera are not as sharp as with more expensive lenses - in fact, I'd jolly well hope not - but just like my Sigma 28-70, they can take a lot of sharpening, which I don't mind doing.
