Suprise DIY Ringflash

I was looking to experiment with a different lighting style and was reading about the ABR800 AlienBees Ringflash. Not wanting to spend the money and then decide it wouldn't work for me, I thought I would make a sort of an DIY ringflash. So I went to the local department store and bought a few items and assembled my own. It is shown in the upper right of the photo. The camera is a Pentax K10D and the flash is the Pentax AF 360 FGZ.

The flash head inserts from behind the "ringflash" and sits above the lens. It's about 11 inches in diameter and about 6 inches in depth. This was the first image I shot. Going to play some and see what else I can do. I never owned a ringflash and I'm not sure if this is the expected result but I kind of like it..
