Husband needs convincing...

Hi everyone,

Buying my 1st DSLR with the hope of proving that another camera is REALLY needed. (Tired of missing those sports shots, kids antics, etc. with P&S.

Decided on D40 after reading some reviews here and handling it. Also so I can remain "under the radar" when making other purchases to go with it. Will be shooting lots and lots of sports(indoors and out) and kid/family shots. Could use some help making lens decisions now.

Kit lens...18-55. What types of shooting situations/distance would that best work for?

And finally...sports lens. Most advocate 55-200VR or70-300VR on this forum...18-200 out of my reach for now. I can usually get on the sidelines or near the dugout and would love the option of a cheaper lens but don't want to be too limited. Other choices?

Any help would be appreciated immensely. I've been searching and trying to learn all this new stuff...a bit overwhelming for a newbie!!

Thanks
