Does anyone have a photo to post, taken with a 17-55mm, that includes the sun?
I would like to see how bad the flare is, or is not.

If you were going to photograph a landscape that included a sunset, would you use a prime instead, and if so, which one?
Thanks

Some 17-35 loyalists will try to scare you with this. There is flare present on the 17-55. But is not as bad as some say...Don't have the 17-35 at this moment, I had 2 in my film days and sold them...Get a good UV filter to protect the lens, if you can use the lens for sunset shots without an UV, that will be better.

I'm not saying you won't get flare, I'm saying that is not that bad compared to my old 17-35's. The extra 20mm + the sharpness wide-open works for my style better than the other 2.

Thanks for taking the time to post, and the beautiful sunset pictures. The sun star is great. It is a good test for flare because the lens is stopped down.

I know too well of the pitfalls of shooting into the sun with a filter attached, but thanks for including this info; some readers may not be aware of this fact.
Based on what I've seen so far, another lens isn't necessary.

I have used the 18-200VR, and it is a good lens, but I prefer the look from the 17-55.
