Secondly, the D200's shadow noise is clearly superior than the D80
when shot in RAW with noise reduction turned on and processed by
Nikon Capture NX. Only Nikon Capture NX will read the cameras
settings off the RAW files generated by the D200.

The comparisions between D200 and D80 raw I've seen doesn't put D200 in front of D80 when it comes to noise. The raws haven't differed much (even though some posts on this list indicate that the raws from D80 is better).

The fact that the sensors are nearly the same doesn't make me believe that there should be any large differences between the raws, and if any I believe the D80 should be superior since it doesn't have the 4 line readout and doesn't have the high speed setting.

I was most interested in the quality of the jpegs from the camera, and not how Nikon Capture handles the rawfiles form D200 and D80.

It it however sad that Nikon hides the settings in the rawfiles.
