The only one I know of are in use by the Govt. There you can place an marker on a object and it will plug in the GPS location.

Some of the very high end cameras do that directly. I have seen (somewhere) a system that used a GPS system that kept track of where you were at what time. Then software linked that info to the date/time EXIF data in your photo and added the GPS info when you got back to your computer.

D1X does NOT have GPS built in..

There are some add-on devices that hook up to assorted camera's and will provide GPS info into the EXIF headers (I believe).

Personally what I do is just use markers on my GPS.

Take a photo, set a marker and label it with the picture number. When I get back I can then take the GPS data place it on a map. I have only done this a few times on flights between Toronto and Singapore. But a kinda neat to pictures out the windows and being able to find the exact spot on a map...

I thought I read somewhere that you could hook up a gps to a D1X and it would write the data in the exif info. There was a consumer camera by Kodak that did the same thing. I don't know if it is still available. What I do is I just take a close up picture of the gps right after the picture that I want the gps info for. I'll have to try the marker idea. Thanks.

I do recall reading a news article on Steves.... One sec...

Ahhhh
http://www.geospatialexperts.com/gpsphotolink.html

Just reading over the webpage...
Supports all Garmin GPS...
No actual connections between the Camera and GPS...

Download your tracks from the GPS and your photos.. Then it takes the Timestamp from the photo and sees where you where at that time on your track (GPS log). Then Watermarks the photo with your locations..
Kinda a neat idea.. But pretty darn expensive I think..

$229 is the price I see. Not sure what the other features are.. Read up though.. Maybe what you area looking for..

I would save the $229 personally though and try what Ralph and I have suggested..

Best of luck!

The D1X/H has an interface for a GPS device. This will enable you to include in EXIF the exact location of your photos. The GPS of course is a separate device that will have to be connected to the D1X/H.

That's what I meant when I said, the D1X has that capability.

Too bad, I am heavily into Canon SLR gear and have no desire to switch.

Since you're using a digital camera, a cheap way would be taking a picture of the GPS screen right after your shot. Then you could rename the photo files using a system which would show you which pairs of shots belong together.
