It may not be enough deterioration to make a difference though- the 300 and 400 2.8 primes are sharper than the 200-400 and 600/4. With the TC-14EII, the 400/2.8 is at least as sharp as the 600/4.

Shooting wildlife in half the light in the early morning and late evening is the benefit of the 2.8 lenses.
