H9 Adapter questions.

R2.

I placed an 58mm filter to the back side of the lens adapter and it was quite loose. So got a mm ruler and it showed about 55 mm.

For some strange reason could not find a 55mm filter at home among my dozen or so old SLR lenses. Will go out today and buy one to see if the thread has the .075 step size that all filters use.

I measured both adapters.
The H5 is 55mm
The H9 is 57mm (no kidding! :-)

If someone could make an adapter so that I can use my H5 zoom, tele, macro and polariser lenses with the H9 ... I'd be their best friend all week.

I don't fancy having to replace all those and I sold my H5 to get the H9.

Exactly. I find the H9 doesn't provide enough features to warrant an upgrade over the H5. The 0.9 increase in MP, the plasticky swivel lcd, and the smaller cheaper construction compared to the H5 didn't push me enough to buy the H9. The biggest beef being the adapter/conversion lenses. Sony had to make up the lower cost somehow - by screwing the fotographers. They want you buy a whole new set. Argh!

Thanks for the updates, but I just want to make sure I'm totally clear before I go shelling out big bucks on all kinds of adapters for the H9 only to find that they are all the wrong sizes.

So what I believe you're saying AAK (and others) is that the lens adapter that ships with the H9 is 57mm diameter (not 60mm) on the side that connects to the camera and 74mm on the side that connects to whatever is being adapted to (tele, etc.).

From the Sony website specifications for the tele adapter they are selling for the H9 they list the following: Screw Diameter --- M74 x 0.75

I'm guessing "M74" is the screw diameter. What does the .75 refer to? Anyone know?

Has anyone confirmed the .075 thread step size on the H9?

Thanks all! As soon as I figure out which adapters to buy I'll be sure to post my progress at connecting the H9 to my telescope.

That is correct. It is about 57mm.

and 74mm on the side that connects

74mm on the filter side of the adapter is correct
to whatever is being adapted to (tele, etc.).

The thread step.

Correct on the "business" side of the adapter.

Probably the same on the camera side by the look of it. Could be different if Sony wants to make it proprietary. But the 57mm is proprietary enough.

Sony is including for free the lens adapter. But that one is too big for many users. It does not need to be that way for supporting tele conversion lenses, such as the DH1758.

The discussion here concerns adapting (no pun intended) the H5 lens adapter to the H9 and to the existing DH1758 lens.
