Sigma 50mm f2.8 Macro as replacement for Canon 50mm 1.8II?

Hi there

I tried a search but could not find any thread dealing with the above topic. I own the EF 1.8II but often reache its limit of 0.45m near focus. So I looked for a prime fith a shorter focus distance and found the Sigma 50mm 2.8 Macro.

My question: is this lens a worthy replacement for the 1.8 regarding a) IQ b) Build? Or should I live with that 0.45m focus distance?

I would use the lens for portraits and maybe for some macro, but I like my Sigma 105mm Macro more for that.
