This shot was taken last autumn in the local park. The original image was rather flat and I have adjusted the colour and contrast to bring out the colour.

1/60s f/3.2 at 6.3mm iso64

Same shot, increased saturation, lightness and applied softfocus filter to create a sort of 'high key' appearance. Is it too much? Which one do you prefer? Welcome your comments/suggestions.

1st one, no question. While the second one isn't blown out, the yellow in the trees in the back, gives it that blown look, while there is good detail showing in the first one.

Nice composition. I know some will feel the color is too saturated but I've done a few like this on purpose and have enjoyed the look. I can't pull it off as well as others I've seen though.

... the first one. The second one loses detail and looks garish by comparison. There is more than enough color in the first.

The only test of an image is the satisfaction it gives you. There simply isn't any other test.

Colors are rich, and more importantly, realistic. I understand the effect you were going for, but I still prefer #1. Nice photo, by the way.

I prefer the bottom pic. I like the increased light on/thru the trees...gives a sort of "heavenly" effect to me. I also like the additional brightness in the color tones of the leaves. Some might see the trees as being a tad overblown, but they just give me a good feeling...it's all so very subjective. I usually like the most "natural" or "true to life" pictures, though sometimes I have gone to town with adding saturation etc. and have like the results.

Nice shots.

Baskar,

I prefer the first one but find it just a tad over saturated. I don't care for the second one. I would like the first one very much except the background trees, mainly upper right of pic, seem to show over sharpening. I don't know what PP program you are using... I use PSPX (and PSPXI...which still has a few bugs) and there's a handy sharpening tool, which used with right mouse button will decrease sharpening in specific areas. With over sharpening, little bits of white tend to show up and mess with the color a bit.

unrealistic (oversaturated).

Of the two I like #1 best.

Beautiful photo. Well done.

I like the extra light in the second, but not the yellow shift in the colour change. They both are very saturated in colour - but that's a big plus for me - I like the effect.

Too saturated for my taste. They'd probably love it over at PhotoSig though -- they seem to eat that stuff up.

Saturation aside, I think the soft focus on #2 helps draw attention to the bench / lessens the distraction of the leaves scattered throughout.

First of all, great composition - shot from a good height above ground to include the bench as the subject and to use the surrounding leaves to give an impression of autumn.

I sort of like what you did in pic#2 - the effect gives the image that extra bit of dimension. You can still see its autumn, but its a dreamy, lazy, hazy autumn, with a 'glow' that adds to the autumnal colours. There is nothing wrong with #1 - its just that I like the effect you applied to #2.

With this 'high key' look, the details do get bluntedand the emphasis should be on the subject as a whole.

Thanks Andy. Colour is a matter of personal choice upto a point and I wanted to know whether I have gone over the top here. Appreciate your comments.

What are the chances you can re-shoot this scene next autumn? I've been looking at it some more, and think you need to change the POV just a bit, either to cut to the top of the bench with the distant tree trunks or separate them from the bench entirely. The bases of the trees seem to match with the top of the bench, as if they are growing out of it. Just an observation. It's a terrific bench.
