US South west Photo safari

Hi Guys,

I'm from New Zealand, but will be heading to California, Utah and Arizona on a personal 'Landscape pilgramage' of sorts.

I'll be over for 6 weeks, although it will be be in August / September (Your summer?) and probably not the ideal time for shooting landscapes, but hey, i've got an opportunity...

I can always come back next year for winter...

where i'm headed is:

Death Valley 2 days
Joshua Tree 2 days
Grand Canyon 2 days
Zion 4 days
Kings canyon 2 days
Sequioa 2 days
Mono Lake 2 days
Yosemite 4 days

Then i'll head down the the west coast road from san Fran back to LA, visiting big sur in the process.

Any advice as far as locations, hikes, precautions (I'm a reasonably experienced hiker, but not in anything like the conditions i'll encounter in death valley)

Is there anything 'unmissable' or little secret locations I should also consider?

Oh, also, I understand you can get a $50 year long pass to all US National parks - is this available to tourists, or citizens only?
