My boy & his train. Please c&c

Nice pics. My 20 mo old son just has a wooden train set that I bought at IKEA. Well several sets to be precise. These capture the experience nicely.

Now about the trains!!! I need info! Who makes the modular track? And which railway are those cars from?

Me too. I can tell its a train. That is enough and even preferable in this case (IMO). Couldn't have been better.

Hi,

I like those shots very much. I think the DOF is superb.

Numbers 4 and 1 are my favourites but I have a sogft spot for #3 as I rememeber as a child just how hard those fishplates were to "line up"

Thanks to all for comments and critique.
For the train lovers, here is an image with the train more in focus:

Well, I will go for a wider DOF next time ;)

In fact, I prefer the shots with the focus on your son. They draw me to the person and moment, rather than being distracted by the mechanics of what he is doing. We can easily see or infer what he is playing with.

I'm biased because I have boys around the same age, but I found this series very engaging.

Great work.

Paul

No. I feel the DOF wa sperfect but as soon as we all start saying "oh nice whatever" then posting images for ceitique is utterly pointless.

Your wife is the crazy one for saying "nothing special" - the
emotion you captured is awesome - we should all find something that
we feel this way about...

Only one comment - get that boy a haircut! :)
That is outrageous. I see the smilie, but did you really mean that?
Was just having fun :) Didn't mean anything disparaging (sp) by it. If it was taken that way, please forgive me.

That takes me back a few years. Looks like a Märklin trainset. I used to have piles of the stuff but gave it all to my small nephew donkeys years ago.

Beautiful pics b.t.w. Your son will look back on these with fondness when he is older.

No problem with me.

You just should have seen him a few months ago, when he was wearing this Brian Jones-like hairstyle :)

excellent subject vs. context .. both when the child is in focus and when the train is in focus..

to do it in a casual setting is all the more impressive.

As someone who got into photography approximately 45 years ago, when many photographers felt that 35mm was really some kind of toy, and that only medium format and large format film cameras were the only professional photographic tools, and as someone who stridently disagreed with them, I roundly applaud your photographic contributions with the wonderful pictures of your son.

I for one feel that we photographers are being trapped into what I would call “photographic technicians.” It is becoming all about equipment and style. I believe that 35mm, and now it’s digital offspring, APS size digital sensors, and the smaller P&S variants, are the perfect tool for capturing life in all of its spontaneity, rapidity and beauty. I believe you have done this in the photographs of your son.

I always appreciated Cartier Breson and his photojournalism approach to 35mm photography. I think he would applaud your efforts as well.

One of the beautiful, wonderful things about digital photography is that it costs no more to shoot 100 images than it does to shoot just one.

Keep shooting, your fascination is leading you to some memorable captures!
