Hi all,

Thought I would experiment with some misty morning shots to see if I could get some usable results.......

I think they are ok....But I would like some feed back on what I did , and what I could do better.......

Any thoughts good or bad would be appreciated......BTW, for all the shots, I seem to remember I used +2ev

This first one is with the sun behind me, and its a veiw of my neighbours place, taken from my driveway..... Is this correctly exposed to give a natural misty feel....

The rest are with the early morning sun through the mist taken from my backdoor step...

And some flowers on the same morning

Hope you dont mind me asking....

I really love the streaming light of 2,3&4 and the shadows in the foreground in #2 are very attractive. I think all of these work really well. Not sure #1 works for me, the mist is a distraction in this one. I can't help but wonder if perhaps a +1 or even no compensation would have added mood to the shots.

Hmm. I guess I would have to say that they're mostly not my cup of tea because I like pictures where there is some color. (Note - not oversaturated pictures where everything glows unnaturally.) I wonder, having never tried it, would a polarizer have any interesting effect on any such picutres with the light coming through the mist?

I too like the #'s 2, 3, & 4, Rik, the light and shadow play works well in these, a successful experiment IMHO..Bill ~

Perhaps try converting to B & W. The first one is a bit to bright for my taste, but a nice experiment all the same. I recall I used to cheat and breath on the lens and when the condensation on the lens cleared to my liking I would snap the photo.

Interesting and not bad. I would try increasing the contrast a hair on some of them to clarify the foreground only. That should help the mist stand out as mist, as opposed to a hazy look.

Yes I like this effect

Hi Raf,

Thanks for your comments..

I know,... I had trouble with number one...but I feel it is a good representation of the real scene.... If I used the esposure the camera was telling me...the whole effect of the mist would be lost due underexposure.....Mist shots are notoriously difficult to get the exposure right.....

Thanks again for your input Raf...much appreciated

These were taken very early in morning...and of course I was in the shadow of these trees with very little light except for the shafts thru the trees...and even then it was not enough to fill the forground with any usefull light to get much colour....

I wonder about a Polarising filter...I might give that suggestion a go..

Thanks

I will give it a go...

I agree it seems bright...but I think once I reduce the brightness...it will lose the effect of the mist

LOL ...dats funny

Thanks Jim for your comments....

I like misty and foggy pictures. #1 and #2 are my favorite.

For the first one, did you try Local Contrast Enhancement? I normally did when shooting misty and foggy pictures.

I normally try to include some subjects closer to my foggy pictures so that I can have a point to focus on.

This is my favorite misty and foggy FZ5 picture, I would like to share it with you here.

BTW, I had taken several pictures in Australia similar to your #2, #3 and #4, but mine had very bad exposures, so never posted.

Thank you for shariing these wonderful and moody pics.

Through the tree branches the mist looks GREAT. For the long distance shot I wonder if a dark close to the camera foliage foreground framing the misty view would provide a contrast to enhance the overall scene.

Interesting. The ones with the sun's rays seem a bit overexposed to me. With a slight underexposure, the rays would come out better defined?

out of all those #2 would have to be my favorite. I love the early morning sunlight streaming through the trees, throwing long shadows on the ground. I like #3 and#4 as well, but they have less detail in the foreground. What a lovely view from the back and front of your house!

You certainly got that. Very natural. However, didn't find the scene itself very interesting...
The rest are with the early morning sun through the mist taken from
my backdoor step...
Now the other mist shots are interesting! Very nice composition and very well exposed! Mist is something rare here...

Thanks for posting, Rik!
