Thanks you all for the picture samples. Based on what I can see thus far, the non-VR version does have superior bokeh. The picture of the bird does blur out the background quite smoothly. This is why I pointed out the differences in having 9 blades vs. 7 blades, at least between all of the Nikon lenses, this has been the one variable that is perhaps most important in getting a creamy background. Frankly, the older non-VR version does a good job considering how cheap it is. For what I am looking for, it is tough to beat.
