Re: Shooting the Moon is a work in process

I've been trying to capture a full moon with the silouette of trees on the horizon. It's a balancing act between blowing out the moon in order to capture the objects on the horizon, or loosing the horizon in order to capture the moon. I tried using an ND .6 filter and got great shots of the moon but lost the horizon. Another photographer suggested using a graduated ND filter as a means to split the light.

Yes I realize I could achieve what I want in two shots put together in Photoshop, but thats not the direction I wish to go. Any thoughts or experiences would be most welcome.
