In addition to the suggestion of a sturdy tripod and MLU, keep White Balance on Auto. Shoot manual exposure based on the table in the link below. Good for eclipses but will also work for various phases of the moon.

When in doubt bracket the exposure to compensate (underexpose) for the glow and shoot the moon lower on the horizon.

Oh yes, switch off VR on the tripod. It can interfere.
