I didn't answer all of your questions, sorry.

The IQ is about the same. High ISO's are treated a bit differently by the processors. The Nikon is grainy with a good bit of chroma noise evident in the shadows. But the grain will print up quite well. The G7 at high ISO's seems to be quite blotchy and I suspect the NR techniques are quite different. Both are very usuable till ISO 400, the Nikon is better at ISO800 than the Canon. They are all bad, very bad over that. ISO3200 at 5MP (which is how it works) seems better than ISO 1600 at full res (but that's all smoke and mirrors)
Not a huge amount in it, to be honest.
