Thank you very much in advance.

To test higher ISOs, VR (at slow shutter speed) and Auto ISO's Minimum Shutter Speed, you can do it indoors. It may even be better - dimmer and easier to maintain the same dim lighting throughout the test.

No A priority had been used all settings were M (everthing I
normally do is M)

Can you do Auto ISO with the Manual mode? P5000's Manual mode does let you set all the manual ISOs or use Auto ISO (with 800 cap) too, right?

And you can see the proper exposure or not from the Exposure Display when adjusting either Aperture or Shutter Speed in the M mode, right?

If so, and if you like to do only M mode, the M mode test would be the following (but it won't find out the Min Shutter Speed for the Auto ISO - have to do the A mode test for that):

*************************************

Use M mode. Use no Zoom. No Flash. Under a dim or low light situation. Hand-held shots.

Initially set the manual ISO to 200.

To make things simpler, set Aperture to F2.7 (wide open with no zoom) and keep it there for the entire test under the low light situation. The only things left to set or change are ISOs and Shutter Speeds.

Find a low light situation that will require a shutter speed about 1/10s for proper exposure (Exposure Display = 0) at F2.7 and ISO 200.

Take a picture at 1/10s and ISO 200 (and F2.7)

Switch to manual ISO 100. You may now need to change Shutter Speed to 1/5s for proper exposure (Exposure Display = 0) for the same scene.

Take a picture at 1/5s and ISO 100 (and F2.7)

Similarly,

Switch to manual ISO 400. You may now need to change Shutter Speed to 1/20s for the same scene for proper exposure (Exposure Display = 0).

Take a picture at 1/20s and ISO 400 (and F2.7)

Take a picture at 1/40s and ISO 800 (and F2.7)

Take a picture at 1/80s and ISO 1600 (and F2.7)

While keeping the same exposure: Exposure Display = 0

Almost done

***

Please switch to Auto ISO for the same scene and lighting condition while keeping Aperture at F2.7.

Now try pick different Shutter Speeds and watch the Exposure Display. Is Auto ISO able to maintain the same proper exposure, Exposure Display = 0, by changing ISOs?

Is the ISO capped at 800 under M mode's Auto ISO? If so, you will notice that when you get the Shutter Speed up to a certain value, the Exposure Display may show under exposure and won't move back higher (by Auto ISO since it may be capped).

Please take a picture at a shutter speed just slower than when that happens (Exposure Display still = 0). Find out what the ISO was chosen by the Auto ISO and note the shutter speed that you pick.

If Auto ISO chooses ISO 800, that may confirm the 800 cap.

And say it is Auto ISO choosing 800 at 1/40s (and F2.7), we may want to find a slightly DARKER scene that would require manual ISO 1600 at about 1/40s also (and F2.7) for the proper exposure (Exposure Display = 0).

Then switch back to Auto ISO, and see what ISO it will pick for the DARKER scene when you keep the shutter speed at 1/40s (and F2.7). It should be Under Exposed at ISO 800. That will confirm the 800 cap (or not).

***********************************

As I said, you may have to use the A mode in order to find out the Minimum Shutter Speed for the Auto ISO.

In the A mode, the only thing you set and fix is Aperture. Both Shutter Speed and ISO (if you choose Auto ISO) will be allowed to vary. There may be (or should be) a minimum shutter speed for the Auto ISO. In other words, Auto ISO may try to pick the lowest ISO while maintaining a certain Minimum Shutter Speed (suitable for hand-held shots) in A mode.

In the M mode, the Shutter Speed is also manually set and Auto ISO (if there is one) becomes limited. The Auto ISO can't affect the shutter speed since the shutter speed is set by you.

Sorry for the long post.

but will try to pull off these tests.

Thank you very very much in advance.
