ISO and VR Test - Re: Coolpix P5000 - 1 CAT

Strange images... after the one of your cat (sharp & plenty of

That was at ISO 64, and with Flash.

this serie, noise, unsharp and lacking contrast?

This series was supposed to test ISOs - High ISOs like ISO 400, 800 and 1600. Of course the images won't look as good (as images taken at ISO 64)

And, they were all taken under the manual mode at the same 1/60s and the same f/4.3, but with the different and various ISOs. The exposure couldn't be right. Contrast (and sharpness) could be affected too. Actually, it seems to be bright enough that ISO 400 was not even needed. Again, this was meant to be a test for ISOs.

It is not easy to design a test to check out P5000's ISO performance.

It would be more interesting to do the ISO test again under a dimmer or darker situation:

*********************

Use A mode. Use no Zoom. Under a dim or low light situation. Hand-held shots.

Initially set the manual ISO to 200.

Find an Aperture that will require a shutter speed about 1/10s for a proper exposure. You may have to choose a proper low light condition for that to happen. When you find that Aperture to have 1/10s at ISO 200 for a proper exposure, please fix at that same Aperture through out the test. Say it is f/4.

Now, we get Aperture out of the way.

But we are staying under A mode and that same fixed Aperture f/4 (or whatever)

Take a picture at 1/10s, f/4 (or whatever fixed) and ISO 200

Switch to ISO 100. The A mode should now choose 1/5s for the same scene.

Take a picture at 1/5s, f/4 and ISO 100.

Similarly,

Switch to ISO 400. The A mode should now choose 1/20s for the same scene.

Take a picture at 1/20s, f/4 and ISO 400

Take a picture at 1/40s, f/4 and ISO 800

Take a picture at 1/80s, f/4 and ISO 1600.

**********************

This test will show various ISO performance for about the same exposure. It will also show how good P5000's Vibration Reduction is for hand-held shots.
