I tried to convince myself to go that way, but ultimately I decided not to. If you rely on a cable to connect your camera to your backup device you are:

1) Unable to take pictures while you are backing up.
2) Running down two batteries at the same time.

I just got my P5000 yesterday, and while it is big, it is a perfect picture storage device. I had to make room for it in my camera bag, but now I plan to take it with me all the time.
